Narcissistic abuse is a psychological and emotional abuse that if left unattended can actually rewrite the brain causing a person to live in a state of hyper vigilance, Both the perpetrator and the victim (survivor) usually has unhealed childhood trauma that has made them both susceptible to the roles they play in this dynamic.
